What Are Posts?

Post: Describes a business in a few words.

Google My Business Posts are posts that can be written and uploaded on a GMB Listing, similar to social media posts. Posts appear below the description of a Google My Business listing.

They are not to be confused with the blog posts on a website.

There are four parts to every post:

  • Image
  • Content
  • Call to action (CTA) and
  • Links

The minimum size for the image is 720 x 540 pixels at a 4:3 aspect ratio. It can be in JPG, PNG, or BMP format with a maximum file size of 5 MB. It can also be a video. Posts can also be updated without an image or media.

Google is hoping to bring an Instagram/Facebook element about Google Posts and hence a good image or video will help in getting more views.

The content is the text within your post. It can be up to 1500 characters including spaces. This is approximately 250-300 words.

These are all the possible CTA options a GMB Post:

  • Book
  • Order Online
  • Buy
  • Learn more
  • Call now

There is also the option to add links to your website, previous posts or 3rd party sites.

GMB Posts remain visible on the listing for a total of seven (7) days. There are also options to have offers or event posts. These stay on till such time the offer or event is no longer available or completed.

At any time, two (2) posts can be seen from the listing, assuming the most recent post was updated within 7 days of the previous one. If there are no posts uploaded after the latest post expires, the field becomes empty. However, a user can click ‘view previous posts on Google’ to access the former posts.

Posts are not final. They can be edited and deleted from the GMB Dashboard.

GMB posts can also be shared on Facebook, Twitter, or email via Google My Business. Posts can be used for sales, news, promotions, highlighting a USP, informing the customer of the company’s products or services, and more.

DigitalBull GO Tip: We recommend adding at least 4 – 6 posts per month and having one offer or event always in circulation. You can also use the daisy-chain method to link one post to a previous post.
