What Are Hours?
Hours: Days and times when a business operates.
Hours of operation are the times when a company functions normally and offers products or services to customers from the days of Monday to Sunday, and from the times of 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM. They are also called working hours.
The traditional hours for American businesses are from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening, from Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday are holidays, which makes for a 40-hour workweek.
Company hours and public-facing hours usually differ. For example, employees usually arrive at the bank before the doors open. The same applies to amusement parks, zoos, supermarkets, etc.
However, for a physical store, the GBP hours are when a business is open to customers as opposed to the shifts or times when the employees work. These are the customer-facing hours. They are displayed in civilian time (12-hour am-pm clock) as opposed to military time (24-hour clock).
In a GBP listing, the hours appear in between the NAP (Name, Address, Phone number). Hours are displayed below the address and above the phone number of the business. Though GBP hours are not as critical as NAP, it is still important to update them to reflect your actual business hours. Be sure to add these hours to your website as well.
A business listing can have different hours for each day. There are also Special Hours that show if or when the business will operate on holidays and special days like Easter, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, New Year’s Day, etc.
Departments within a hospital, university, supermarket, or other business can have individual listings and hours corresponding to that department within the listing.
Business owners can update GBP hours for every day of the week. They can also show ‘Closed’ for particular days. Timings with breaks can also be shown, such as from 7 AM to noon, then 2 PM to 4 PM.
Your business category affects your business hours. For example, certain businesses with categories related to theaters, hotels, universities, movie theaters, and airports should not (and cannot) provide their hours. This is because schedules, showtimes, class times, and activities vary. However, hotel category businesses can add check-in and check-out times for their listings.
You should add GBP hours based on when you can service customers while updating special hours accordingly. The goal should be to be as accurate as possible when updating your hours.
Does a 24-hour service offer an advantage in the ranking? While this cannot be conclusively proven, Google has been known to favor businesses that are open when users are searching for services related to the GBP category of that business.
DigitalBull GO Tip: Look up the times of your competition and see if you can start an hour earlier or close a little later. If your business means taking calls at any time of the day, opt for the 24-hour window. Ensure that the hours on the website match exactly with the hours on your GBP.
