What Are Posts?

Post: Expands upon the brand, updates, products, or services of a business.

Google Business Profile posts are posts that can be written and published on a business listing, similar to social media posts. Posts appear below the description of a Google Business Profile listing.

They are not to be confused with the blog posts on a website.

There are four parts to every post on the Google Business Profile:

  • Image
  • Content
  • Call to action (CTA)
  • Links

The minimum size for the image is 720 x 540 pixels at a 4:3 aspect ratio. It can be in JPG, PNG, or BMP format with a maximum file size of 5 MB. It can also be a video. Posts can also be published without an image or media.

Google is hoping to bring an Instagram or Facebook element about Google Posts and hence a good image or video will help in getting more views. Hence, you can include hashtags in your post for important keywords or target service areas.

The content is the text within your post. It can be up to 1500 characters including spaces. This is approximately 250-300 words.

These are all the possible CTA options for a GBP post:

  • Book
  • Order Online
  • Buy
  • Learn more
  • Call now

Earlier, Google used to allow links to be added to the post as naked URLs and you could link to a website, 3rd party tool, or the previous post. However, this feature has since been removed.

GBP posts remain visible on the listing for a total of seven (7) days, so it makes sense to create and publish them once a week.

There are also options to have offers or event posts. These remain on the listing till such time the offer or event is no longer available or completed.

At any time, two (2) posts can be seen from the listing, assuming the most recent post was updated within 7 days of the previous one.

If there are no posts uploaded after the latest post expires, the field becomes empty. However, a user can click ‘view previous posts on Google’ to access the former posts.

Posts can be used for sales, news, promotions, highlighting a USP, informing the customer of the company’s products or services, and more.

Some examples of good post ideas include segments of a blog post from your website, useful tips, industry facts, local information, and FAQ or Q&A for your business. Just be sure the information relates to your category.

Posts are not final. They can be edited and deleted from the GBP Dashboard.

Be sure to mix them up with events and offers once in a while.

There is no limit to the posts you can publish. As long as they are beneficial to users, you should post frequently (typically weekly) as they are a great form of supplementary content and bring visitors to your site.

You can share the GBP post on Facebook, Twitter, or email via the Google Business Profile.

You can also use a scheduling tool, of which there are many, to schedule your Google posts.

DigitalBull GO Tip: We recommend adding at least 4 – 6 posts per month and having one offer or event always in circulation.
